Willy Oeba Partners with BLAZE Mentor Safe Joe in New Jam “The Letter”

I’ve watched Willy Oeba’s muscle in poetry and art grow over the years and his new song is a testament that he is going places. Who is he you ask? He is my friend duh!?

On a more serious note, he is a young Kenyan poet-slash-spoken word artist. He is one like Qui Qarre whom I interviewed a while back. It all started on campus where he’d organize events and wow the crowds with his punchy and witty lines. For those who love spoken word, one of the lines in his new song, “The Letter” goes… “Now they wear their watches on their left hand… ‘Cause they thought it wasn’t the right Time…Nothing is going right even the clock ain’t ticking no more.” Willy Oeba has gone on to perform on so many platforms as well win Ksh.100,000 last year, courtesy of Safaricom and of course, his talent.

“The Letter” is a new song that is for those who’ve lost their loved ones. The message is that they are not going through this alone and he tries to pass a message to the loved ones who are already “on the other side.” It’s a touching jam I have to say.

He has collaborated with another upcoming star Barbra Chege who is a contestant on this season’s show. One of the things I loved about this jam is that it was produced by SafeCon Music. This company is under ‘Safe’Joe who was among the top 3 finalists in the BYOB TV show by Safaricom.

If you have attended any BLAZE Summit by Safaricom, you have definitely seen him as a mentor speaking to the audience.  This is what I call youth supporting each other.

“The Letter” is very timely considering the country just remembered those we lost in the Garissa University Attack three years ago.
