6 Kenyan Actors Appear in Major Netflix Film

Six Kenyan actors made an appearance on the Netflix film, ‘The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.’ The film was directed by British-Nigerian actor Chiwetel Ejiofor who starred in ‘12 Years a Slave‘ alongside Lupita Nyong’o.  It’s based on a true Malawian story.

Maxwell Simba, a young Alliance High School alum, is the star of the film. The premise of the film is about a “13-year old boy (played by Maxwell), who is thrown out of school because his family can no longer afford fees. He sneaks back into the school’s library and learns how to make a windmill to save his village from famine.”

The other 5 Kenyan actors who appear in the film are Raymond Ofula, a veteran actor, Melvin Alusa, Martin Githinji, Eddie Mbugua and Robert Agengo.

Critics have praised the movie with the New York Times writing, “The directing debut of the actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is so worthy, so earnest and so achingly sincere that it’s almost painful to criticize.” Sandy Schaefer from Screen Rant described it saying, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is respectfully restrained to a fault, but its earnest and authentic outlook provides the biopic with a beating heart.”

You can watch the movie on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
